What Barony or Shire are you in?
Submitted by Johann on April 3, 2004 - 04:47. HouseholdIf you are like me, the barony you play with on a regular basis may not be the one to which you actually belong. In order to help those of you who are curious about whose borders you are living within, I've added a new page to the Black Rose site at http://blackrose.info/ZipCode.php.
The zip code search feature only works for the Kingdom of Atenveldt...for now.

Household website
Submitted by Johann on January 6, 2003 - 03:06. HouseholdThe household website is starting to take shape! We still need more information so that the household page can inform the world of the glory (or infamy, depending on who you talk to) that is Black Rose. Please send any information, history, stories, etc.. to Amphelisia Wynter.

I don't believe it is an idle boast when I say there are few households in the Known World that can match the achievements of the Duchy of the Black Rose in it's 30+ year history in the SCA.
"
We were here when the Society first appeared in what was to become the Kingdom of Atenveldt. Our legacy extends from the first tournament through the birth of a Kingdom to this very day. Our members have sat the royal thrones, Kingdom, Principality, and Baronial. We have held posts of service on every level of the Society. We have commanded the King's armies in the field, as a fighting group we have earned the respect of our peers, and a national reputation. Our members, and fellow confederates, have been an integral part of the Kingdom throughout its history and remains so today.
But what is "The Duchy"?
Since its inception the Black Rose has been a household within a community of households. "The Duchy" is a confederation of households, or clans if you will, based on friendship, common interests and a dedication to having a good time. We are a haven and a starting place for those new to the SCA, an introduction rather than indoctrination. All are welcome to practice their own level of involvement with the SCA as suits themselves and their means. The Duchy provides common ground for uncommon people - talented people, who make an important contribution to the group as a whole. We are not dependent on a central figure, but rather a standard of excellence, our own standard. We inspire each other.
Our strength is our people and our purpose is to build upon our common ground.
With that in mind I would like to focus the group's attention on the fast approaching Estrella War.
It has been several years since we've had a "planned" encampment. In years past we have focussed our attention to creating a campsite worth of the status of the Duchy, complete with a formal entry, a gatehouse, sentries and escorts, displays of armor, siege equipment and period encampments, planned events and feasts.
I would like to use this year's war as an opportunity to create another "planned" encampment even more spectacular than our previous efforts. This is a wholly attainable goal if we, as a group, put our minds to it. It will take an extra effort on all our parts, however the results, as they have in the past, will prove the worth of these efforts.
What I propose is a community effort the results of which will be directly proportionate to the community's support.
As a means to this end I have decided to host a Black Rose/Duchy fighter practice at our home Friday nights, from 7:00pm to 10:00pm starting Nov. 2. All are welcome. We will work on our fighting skills, individual as well as group tactics. It is my hope that this weekly event will facilitate stronger ties and a basis for better communication between the diverse groups that make up the heart of the Duchy.
I hope to be seeing many of you at the Baronial Investiture. I hope my suggestions in this missive meet with your approval and support, and I am looking forward to hearing your ideas and input.
